American Aero FTW delivers $2,570 donation to Tarrant Area Food Bank

Employees at Fort Worth Meacham private aviation terminal give back to the community

FORT WORTH, Texas (August 31, 2020)) – With the economic impact of COVID-19 continuing to create hardship for families across North Texas, employees of American Aero FTW, a fixed-base operator (FBO) serving private aviation customers at Meacham International Airport in Fort Worth, saw an opportunity to make a difference. The team of 24 ground handlers and customer service representatives organized an internal fundraiser for the Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) and raised $1,282. American Aero matched the employee contribution, for a total donation of $2,564.

American Aero General Manager Angela Thurmond said that despite a decrease in airport traffic caused by the pandemic, the FBO has retained full staffing and hours. Meanwhile, team members recognized that others in the community were without employment and in need of assistance.

“The incredible men and women of American Aero are truly service oriented, and that commitment goes well beyond the doors of our FBO,” Thurmond said. “I couldn’t be prouder of my team for taking the initiative to make personal contributions to support our neighbors.”

Thurmond says giving back is part of the American Aero culture. The FBO has donated over $116,000 to the Navy SEAL Foundation to help active and retired SEALs earn pilot certification. It also hosts an annual Toys for Tots toy drive that collects hundreds of bicycles and toys for children in need each holiday season.

Tarrant Area Food Bank is the primary source of donated food for hunger-relief charities and feeding programs in 13 North Texas counties. In response to COVID-19, TAFB has focused on feeding the most vulnerable populations, including seniors, children, the homeless and those just placed in emergency need due to job losses.
